We're watching the state's monthly sales tax revenue

The economic fallout from the coronavirus outbreak has sent the economy into a recession. A decline in Texas’ sales tax revenue — the largest source of funding for the state budget — has created a shortfall that officials will have to fill.

In May, Texas collected $3.4 billion in sales tax revenue from purchases made in April, up 30.1% from May 2020.
