Blue Origin’s secrecy dates back to the early 2000s, when Bezos was first buying up ranch land in the area. Lawyers called and made offers to ranch owners. Some refused at first. The offers eventually became too sweet to pass up.
But whom the lawyers represented was unknown. Neither Bezos’ name nor his company’s were linked to the deals; the ranches’ deeds went to corporate entities named after famous explorers.
